The Times I was Scared
By Kayla - 4th Grade

Curious Spider

One day as I was walking to my room to go to bed I saw a spider. It looked like it had a pattern of  black and white and it was kind of tiny. I hated spiders but I also like nature too so I told my dad to put it outside. When I was staring at it I put a picture of it in my head. After the spider was put outside I went to bed. I couldn't sleep right away. Since I pictured a spider in my head I started to think of the other spiders I knew of like Tarantulas and Black Widows. It was dark inside the room.  I covered myself with blankets. The next day I was okay. but when I started my day I was fine. That was the day I was scared.

Another day I was scared I went to Universal in Florida with my family. It was my first time in Orlando. It was so humid and hot in Orlando like a desert with no wind so I had to drink a lot of water. When we got there it was crowded like there was a pack of coyotes in the parking lot. When we found  our spot we went to the park. When we went in I was excited but a little nervous . First we went on a ride where you’re on a motorcycle and it’s really fast, but at least I knew you wouldn't fly off because they have seatbelts and you have to hold on to the handles . It was a rollercoaster. I didn’t really like rollercoasters but I did it anyway. It was fast. I held on the whole time and I closed my eyes. The ride went Zig Zag like a pattern .It made big drops that made me feel like I had butterflies in my stomach.  After it was over it felt good and fun. Later we did other rides, ate lunch and one more ride. The ride was called Space  mountain. When I went on it I had more confidence.I went and I felt good. I didn’t scream. I finally found a rollercoaster just for me just like Goldilocks and the Three bears.

If you ever experience this too, you should know that being scared is okay. Fear can be helpful and make you experience other things that you hadn’t yet. Being scared is okay because the next day you will be okay. For example if you had a nightmare then when you wake up you'll realize that it was just a nightmare. It’s like you're a computer and someone controls you and presses the refresh button. Another reason being scared is okay is when I had a dream of a spider ,nothing will hurt you ,but when I’m looking at a real spider I can move away from it by just moving away to protect myself. Also the spider just wants to live like us.Think about it ,you wouldn’t want to get stepped on.

Also, did you know that if you try new things maybe it can end in fun for you?

For example when I was in Universal and wanted to go on a rollercoaster I was scared.

When I tried the roller coaster I could feel a different emotion that I felt like I could do it again. So if you try new things like me after whatever you're dealing with you will learn that it's okay to be scared.
