Snowy Adventure
By Nathan - 6th Grade

Have you ever gone on an adventure? If you did, did you learn things from it or you had to persevere through obstacles? In my story, I will be telling you how curiosity, perseverance, and endurance helped me have an adventure in the snow.
On January 15, 2023 I went to see snow up on the mountain. It was a 1 hour and 20 minute journey. We went up the mountain, I was sleeping of course, and I woke up to see fog. We were driving in the clouds. It was 37 degrees Fahrenheit and my hands were freezing outside. We stopped since the road was too slippery and we didn’t have chains on, near a river. The river had moss all over the rocks. We didn’t see any animals, but I did see bug-like creatures. They had 6 legs, 2 or 3 abdomens, and a sharp mouths. The river looked like it was 2 meters wide and was 900 meters long traveling around 15 miles/hour. The location was probably Mount Baldy since I remember the bald part of the name.
At the end, we never got to see snow. The clouds and fog were covering the view and the road was icy, so we turned and went back down. In my head, this choice was as confusing as waking up from a dream and trying to remember it. I was confused because I wanted to go up while my eyes and body said to go down because of the danger I was seeing. When we were headed back home, we missed the exit and had to go the long way. On our way, we were hungry, so we ordered some Pad Thai and went back home.
On January 28, 2023 I went up to Mt Baldy again. This time, it didn’t rain, so it was easier going up. We were also accompanied by another family. This family was good friends of my dad. We went up to the peak and I eagerly awaited the snow. As we went higher, I began to see an increase of snow. When we arrived, it was like a refrigerator. I got the feeling of confusion like a ball of mess. My ear and head hurt like I got hit by a wrecking ball and I couldn’t think straight.
At the end, I got into my snow gear and got climbing. When I reached and touched the snow, it was so soft and white! I climbed a hill that was 2 meters tall and gathered snow and made bunches of snowballs. Then, I rode on a sled and went down a hill! I experienced a near death situation. I was going down the steep hill when I forgot to brake and I almost hit a tree until my dad blocked me. However, my neck almost snapped forward which might have dislocated my spine and damaged my nerves. When my sled fell, I got on my stomach and sledded down the hill like a penguin. Then, I made a small igloo without the top and I made snow angels. While the others played snow fight again, I laid down since moving in the snow gear and the snow was very difficult because of the weight. After we played, we ate instant cooked food and played a bit more.
Before we went, I grabbed some snow in some bags and put them in a bag and went back home. I thought all that snow would melt, but I was wrong! I checked up on them when I arrived and they were in good shape. I immediately put them in the freezer, and now I have snow from 46 miles away. Overall, I got 3 bags of snow, and I increased my relationship and friendship with my family and my friend’s family. I felt extremely happy while I played and extremely sad while I went back down. I felt the rush of regret that I could’ve played more if I didn’t get carried away making my igloo.
Without adventure, I never would have seen snow with other families in 2 years. Adventure takes 3 key skills; curiosity, perseverance, and endurance. Curiosity might increase the chance of being adventurous. Without curiosity, I wouldn’t have gone up the mountain to see snow. I wouldn’t even gone up to Mt. Baldy if I didn’t have the curiosity inspiring my adventure.

Perseverance is also key to dedicating yourself to going on an adventure and experiencing new things. Without perseverance, I wouldn’t have gone up the mountain or left the inside of my car because I would’t want to experience new things. Even though there was so much ice and hail, we came back another day to try again. We didn’t stop because we weren’t scared to try again, even though it was dangerous the last time.
It also takes endurance because there might be obstacles that make it harder to continue the adventure. Without endurance, I would have stopped on my adventure since I became too exhausted, or became inactive. However, adventures take a great deal of time to accomplish, so endurance is very important.

In conclusion, adventure takes curiosity, perseverance, and endurance. Curiosity to inspire adventure, perseverance to retry later, and endurance to beat obstacles that come in the way of going on an adventure. I got to have fun and get all my experiences from my trip to Mt Baldy with snow and I can now concentrate on studying. Adventure could give joy and new experiences to anyone if you go explore.
