The Story of a School Shooting
by Emily - 6th Grade

Classroom Furnitures

During lunch at school, we were just eating and we saw a bunch of 6+ graders run into the science lab, and I thought they were really late for a club. Then the teacher (a brunette, a little over 5 ft., brown eyes) said to get in the classroom because there was a school shooter on the loose in the campus. We ran inside the classroom as if we were crazy geese running around. A minute later, Tiffany left her fork outside, Cailyn left her drink outside, and I left nothing (I’m proud of myself).

Cailyn, Tiffany, and I were in the science lab away from the windows, lights off, and behind the table. I was eating my spicy lunch Fritos, playing Cookie Run Kingdom, and Tiffany and Cailyn were playing Pokemon GO. It was funny when Tiffany said, “If I die, I will give you a Pokemon.”

An hour passed by, lunch was over, and the bell SCARED ME as if my soul left my body. I was texting my mother and my sister that there was a school shooting, and my mom kept asking me questions like, “Why is there a shooting?” A little later when I kept hearing police sirens, the PA said that we were going to a normal schedule. So many people left early because of what had happened, and it was very peaceful, not crowded, not loud, and not anything chaotic. The school grounds looked very empty like a low-star restaurant.

When I went to an after school program “Beyond-the-Bell” I was so happy almost everyone left because it would always be chaotic and loud so that was a relief. The teacher started giving out chocolate because she felt bad for the ones who had to stay. I also felt bad for the ones who may have gotten injured.

From this I learned that no matter where or what situation you are in you at least have your friends along with you.  They showed me more bravery because they kept making jokes and cheering each other up from the shooting. It let me overcome loneliness by having my friends beside me and talking to each other about other topics. Even if you don’t have your friends you can talk to other people to have more friends in dangerous, lonely, etc. situations like this.

This teaches us that wherever we go there will always be friends as long as they are trusted and someone who we can talk to.  Friends can help you overcome your fear because they are loyal and supportive by helping each of our minds off of the shooting, but bad friends leave you unsupported. Also, friends can help you be more confident and be self-sufficient.
